First lines (icebreakers)

You're the only person doing sales after a seed round, and you need pipeline before your first AE starts in Q1.
Based on: LinkedIn post: seed round, sole seller, Q1 AE hire
Hiring your first AE in Q1 means pipeline has to exist before they arrive, not after.
Based on: LinkedIn post: Q1 AE hire
Running sales alone at 14 people while lining up a Q1 hire is a tight spot.
Based on: 14 employees, sole seller
Email 1: problem-led
69 words
Subject: pipeline before your first AE
Hi {{firstName}}, You're the only person doing sales at {{companyName}} and your first AE starts in Q1. That leaves a short window to build pipeline for them to inherit. We run outbound for B2B SaaS companies: list building, copy, and sending from dedicated inboxes. Our clients typically add 8–15 qualified meetings a month within 60 days. Would it be useful to have pipeline started before your Q1 hire? Best,
Email 2: outcome-led
65 words
Subject: a warm start for your Q1 AE
Hi {{firstName}}, Congrats on the seed round. A new AE ramps much faster with meetings already on the calendar than with an empty CRM. We handle outbound end to end for SaaS teams your size, from the list to the inbox, so you can keep selling while pipeline builds in the background. Open to a 15-minute call to see if it fits before Q1? Best,
Follow-up (send 3–4 days later, same thread)
27 words
Subject: pipeline before your first AE
Hi {{firstName}}, One more thought: if outbound starts 6–8 weeks before your AE joins, their first meetings can land in week one. Worth a quick look? Best,
{{firstName}} and {{companyName}} are merge tags your sending tool fills per contact. Before you send:
- Check this email → spam words, length, readability and links.
- Add spintax → so every send isn't word-for-word identical.
How the generator writes
First lines from real details
Each icebreaker points to one concrete thing in the context you pasted (a post, a hire, a launch) and tells you which. With no context, you get role-based openers and a nudge to add some.
Two different angles
The variants argue differently (say, problem-led versus outcome-led), so you can A/B test the argument, not just the wording.
Deliverability-safe by default
No links, attachments, calendar URLs, hype words or fake "Re:" subjects. Plain text that looks like one person writing to another.
Ready for your sending tool
Uses {{firstName}} and
{{companyName}} merge tags and ends on a sign-off,
so your tool's signature slots in.
How to write cold emails that get replies
Most cold emails fail for the same reasons: they're about the sender, they ask for too much, and they read like a template. These rules fix most of it.
- Make the first line about them. "I'm Sam from Acme" wastes the preview text. Open with something true and specific about the reader, then connect it to why you're writing.
- One problem, one ask. Pick the single pain this person most likely has and end on one question. Two CTAs halve the odds of either.
- Ask for interest, not time. "Worth a look?" is easier to answer than "Are you free Tuesday at 2pm?" Book the call after they reply.
- Keep it under 125 words. Most cold email is read on a phone. If it needs scrolling, it gets archived.
- No links or attachments in the first email. They add spam-filter risk and friction. Offer the case study and send it when they say yes.
- Follow up with something new. A second email that adds a fresh angle or detail does better than "bumping this to the top of your inbox".
Example: before and after
A typical first draft:
Hi Dana, I hope this email finds you well! I'm reaching out from GrowthCo, a leading provider of cutting-edge outbound solutions. We help companies unlock their full revenue potential. Here's our deck: [link]. Do you have 30 minutes this week for a call?
Everything in it is about the sender, "cutting-edge" and "unlock" are filler, there's a link in a first touch, and the ask is 30 minutes from a stranger. The rewrite:
Hi Dana, saw your post about closing the seed round while still being the only person selling. That's usually when pipeline gets lumpy: demos one week, nothing the next.
We run outbound for seed-stage SaaS teams so founders have meetings booked before the first AE starts. Most clients see 8–15 qualified calls a month within 60 days.
Worth a short chat to see if that would bridge the gap until Q1?
That's 71 words. It's about Dana, it names one problem and one result, and it asks one small question. Hit "Try an example" in the generator to see it work from the same input.
Before you hit send
Good copy can't fix a broken sending setup. Check your domain with the SPF, DKIM & DMARC checker, work out how many inboxes and domains your volume needs with the cold email infrastructure calculator, and go through the deliverability checklist. Deliverability fundamentals covers why it all matters.
FAQ
Is this cold email generator really free?
Yes. No signup, no email address, no credit card. There's a per-minute rate limit to keep it fast for everyone, and we don't store the text you paste.
Can I paste a LinkedIn or website URL instead of text?
No, paste the text itself. The generator doesn't visit URLs. Copy the prospect's About section, a recent post, a paragraph from their site or a funding announcement into the Prospect context box. The more specific the text, the more specific the first lines.
How long should a cold email be?
For a first touch, 50 to 125 words. Short enough to read on a phone without scrolling, long enough to say who it's for, why now, what you do and one ask. Follow-ups should be shorter still, under 60 words.
What is an icebreaker in cold email?
The first line of the email, written about the recipient: something they posted, launched, hired for or said. A good icebreaker proves the email wasn't blasted to 10,000 people and connects that detail to the reason you're writing. A compliment with no detail ('loved your post') doesn't count.
Will AI-written cold emails land in spam?
Spam filters judge your sending setup and recipient engagement far more than who wrote the words. Authenticate your domain (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), keep volume per inbox low, skip links and attachments in the first email, and avoid sending identical text to everyone. Then run the draft through a checker before you send.
What do {{firstName}} and {{companyName}} mean?
They're merge tags. Your sending tool replaces them with each contact's first name and company from your lead list. Clement, Instantly, Smartlead and most other tools use this double-curly-brace syntax, but check yours before you import.
